PBA Governor's Cup 2016 started with a blast. The first game was with the Meralco Bolts vs. the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters.
These two teams opened the Governor's Cup very well, welcoming the 2-imports for the struggling teams on the previous tournament. It was a slow start but it was a battle at the last stretch of the game.
Jimmy Alapag hits 4 three-points with a perfect shooting behind the arc. This guy never age. Looks like the Bolts picks up where they took off in the Commisioner's Cup. However, this is just the start of the game. Pheonix will surely be more aggressive in the later part of the game.
Phoenix also made its comeback on the third when they start hitting their own threes as well.
Before the last 2 minutes ring, Newsome drove an open lane and scored after an effective fake. Simon Enciso hits a three for Pheonix 101-100. Jamshidi (Asian import) force an offensive foul against Marcus Simmons (import).
Allen Durham dunks in a fastbreak from a steal on the other side, Meralco leads 103-100. Simmons on the next position can't hit a three.
Durham scores again increasing the lead to 5, 105-100. Phoenix called for a timeout with only 43 seconds remaining on the clock.
17:1 seconds, Pheonix called for a timeout again down with only 4 points. Simmons attack the basket but Hodge holds his ground with a good defense.
Meralco got their first win in the Governor's Cup 2016, 108-104
